Ramadan is not a month for fasting during the day, breaking the fast in the evening, and sleeping at night.  The Messenger’s prayers and peace be upon him, used to strive more in Ramadan than he strives in others, so he fasted during the day and prayed at night.

This year all Muslims know that the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan is not complete without the Tarawih prayer. As it is one of the non-obligatory prayers performed especially in the holy month of Ramadan. So in this article, we will discuss Taraweeh importance and benefits for Muslims.

Is Taraweeh Sunnah or Nafl?

let's discuss what is the taraweeh importance?
let’s discuss what is the taraweeh importance?

The people of knowledge unanimously agreed that the Taraweeh prayer is a confirmed optional Sunnah that is performed in the month of Ramadan after the Isha.

It is also the highest form of sunnah that’s why Muslims shouldn’t miss it and seek Allah’s rewards on the day of judgment and as well as in this Dunya.

Earlier the Prophet also used to perform the Taraweeh prayer in the congregation for a short period, but the practice was later changed so that these prayers don’t become obligatory for people.

But since the objective of all Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan is to perform extra worship. It is recommended to offer Taraweeh prayer.

The reward of any good deed performed in the holy month is multiplied so is the reward for prayers offered in the congregation, so why not grab this bonus for just a little effort? For that Taraweeh importance and virtues is numerous and no one supposes to miss this holy atmosphere in Ramadan.

The Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H said, “Whoever observes night prayer in Ramadan as an expression of his faith and to seek reward from Allah, his previous sins will be blotted out.”

Taraweeh is a special Salah (prayer) consisting of 20 Rakat which is performed immediately after the ‘Isha’ prayer. Also offering this special prayer during the month of Ramadan has much spiritual as well as medical importance.

It not only purifies our souls but is also a way to keep us healthy. Taraweeh importance is a blessing for all Muslims that leaves no reason for skipping it, so let’s discuss it as follows.

1. Praying Taraweeh is a sunnah of the prophet

The prophet Muhammad used to offer Taraweeh during the holy month of Ramadan besides listening and reading the Quran.

The sunnah of the prophet Muhammad is recommended activity for every Muslim, and it brings us closer to Allah S.W.T.

So Taraweeh importance and virtues are in the favor of all Muslims to call upon the pleasure and happiness of Allah S.W.T in this holy month by following the actions of the prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H.

2. Taraweeh makes us offering prayer much easier

Taraweeh meaning is the extra voluntary prayer offered after the Isha prayer in Ramadan, the minimum of which is 8 rakaat and is prayed in sets of 2 rakaat. Some people tend to pray 20 rakaat, but although there are more authentic hadiths in favor of 8 rakaat, there is no harm in praying more if you like.

So whatever the number of Taraweeh Rakaat, it is still much more than the number of Rakaat you offer through the normal day. Taraweeh importance here is to make offering Salah easier since one is already standing in one prayer for a long period.

It also makes us restructure our lives and makes us more responsible and active Muslims throughout the year not only during Ramadan.

3. Salah is the most favorable act of worship

Worship, supplication, and whatever deed is performed for pleasing Allah, more or less affect the person and society also.

These are the highest training and ethics in the studies of Islam because:

  •  The worship of Allah creates a sense of thankfulness, respect, and honor.
To realize the value of the source from which a man gets the valuable divine blessings is a sign that the person was deserving of them.
  •  The worship of Allah elevates the soul of man.
What else can be more elevating that he gets connected to the total perfection and that is Allah, and for the duties of worship and the affairs of this life we ask help from the unending and unlimited power and acquire that much capability that we can communicate with Him.

These benefits are present in all the worship acts, which are performed correctly, and other worship acts like Prayers, Fasting, and Hajj has their benefits and effects besides the special Taraweeh importance effect.

4. Taraweeh importance includes listening to Quran more

Ramadan is the month of mercy and forgiveness, and the reward and blessings of doing any good deed or action are significant during this holy month.

In Ramadan, you are listening to the Holy Quran (Words of Allah SWT) every day during Taraweeh. Those are the Words of your creator, sustainer, and holder of your destiny.

In addition to spending time listening to Holy Quran and hopefully trying to understand the verses. Allah SWT will reward you for your time and effort. Ideally, we Muslims are encouraged to recite the Holy Quran as often during Ramadan day and night as possible.

5. Taraweeh is a good exercise for Muslims

In Ramadan, we usually get lazed around, especially after Iftar, and as a result, we tend to miss adequate exercise required to maintain health.

So Taraweeh is a way to do more exercises as a way to make us more active and to do all proper activities throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

Also, the gentle performance of Taraweeh improves physical fitness and emotional feeling without any undesirable side effects. Those who do fasting and perform the Taraweeh report feeling much more energetic and robust.

The holy month of Ramadan brings many opportunities to strengthen our relationship with Allah. Taraweeh importance is for all Muslims around the world, as it brings more blessings and mercy from Allah S.W.T not only during Ramadan but also throughout the whole year.
