Ramadan is a blessed and holy month for all Muslims around the world. This month of the year starts with the appearance of the new moon where all Muslims fast for 29 to 30 days.

Many Muslims start preparing plans from the month of Shaban, as they prepare many ideas to have the best Ramadan plans from sunrise to dawn for 30 days.

Ramadan significance and traditions?

Ramadan is the month of fasting when all Muslims go with no food and water from sunrise to sunset. Also, Ramadan is a time to be closer to family and connect more with Allah through praying and Dua.

A proper Ramadan plans Starts with reciting the Quran, offering more prayer, and participating in more charity and community feasts.

This holy month holds special significance for all Muslims, as it is a remembrance of the time when the Quran teachings were revealed to the prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).

1- Fasting from Sunrise to Sunset

Fasting is an important part of Ramadan, all Muslims have to prevent food and water from Sunrise to Sunset following some instructions and guidelines.

 However, Allah (S.W.T) has exempted sick people and travelers from fasting during Ramadan. Also in other cases like pregnant women, breastfeeding, and menstruating women.

Also during fasting in Ramadan, we need to avoid some actions that can lead to the invalidation of Ramadan like:

  • Take medication through the eye or nose during fasting.
  • Vomiting intentionally.
  • Smoking on the day of Ramadan.
  • Eating after Suhoor.

2- Perform Taraweeh the night prayer

The word ‘Taraweeh’ is the plural of ‘Tarwiha’ which means ‘resting’. The ‘resting’ here refers to sitting after every four Rakats. Salat Taraweeh is a sunnah muakkadah (emphasized sunnah) for both men and women.

Praying it in congregation is a sunnah kifayah (communal sunnah), which means the sunnah of the entire community is fulfilled if a few people do it:

  • It is to be performed after Salat al-Isha.
  • It is preferred to offer it before the witr salah, but praying it after the witr does not invalidate it.
  • Recommended to delay it until just before one-third of the night has passed.
  • If missed, it is not to be made up (as it is sunnah and not fard or wajib).

The established sunnah according to 3 of the 4 schools of Fiqh is to pray 20 Rakat of Taraweeh with 10 salams followed by 3 Rakat of witr. So whatever the number of Rakat, it is preferred to perform it as a part of the Ramadan plans this year.

3- Involve Quran reciting in the Ramadan plans

Reading the Quran is a great deal for the Ramadan plans and striving to complete it, but that is not obligatory, if you can’t complete the Quran it is not sinning, but you have missed out on plenty of rewards.

The fasting person, reads the Quran a great deal in Ramadan, as that is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he used to review it with Jibreel every Ramadan.

4- Observe Itikaf in the Ramadan plans

Itikaf is the practice of solitude and prayer, while disconnected from day-to-day worldly matters. It is generally done in tandem with fasting and inside a grand mosque, in which Mu’takifs (the people who do Itikaf) fast, stay in the mosque and pray all day and night, and do not leave the mosque for at least 3 days.

It is strongly suggested under Islam and a favorable act for your Ramadan plans, and great spiritual value and growth are associated with it.

Islam generally endorses social life as a spiritual path and does not generally endorse seclusion and disconnect from society.

However, it encourages that from time to time, as a period to reflect and think of deeper issues. That’s what the prophet (P.B.U.H) himself did, he would retreat to a remote mountain for a few days (up to 40) every year, and reflect and pray there.

Amongst the Five Pillars of Islam is Zakat, a duty expected of every able Muslim. Every able person who meets the minimum requirement must give 2.5% of their wealth to charity before the end of the Lunar Year.

Your Zakat is calculated according to the wealth in your possession including gold and silver and any investments, loans, or debts minus your monthly responsibilities.

Your Zakat donation is given to the poor and needy with good intentions for the sake of Allah (SWT) to help us become better Muslims. Giving Zakat is a reminder to not be greedy and free our minds from the obsession with materialistic things.

6- Performing Umrah as a part of your Ramadan plans

If you wonder how significant performing Umrah is in the month of Ramadan. In that case, you should know that Umrah is the highest form of Sunnah, and completing this most elevated form of Sunnah in Ramadan’s holy month can reward you with immense blessings and virtues.

Though Umrah is not obligatory for Muslims but holds major significance and spiritual importance, this significance of purity, when performed with pure intentions, earns Allah’s highest and immense pleasure.
